Our very first gallery exhibit "Laos In The House: Voices from Four Decades of the Lao Diaspora" opened this year 2015. Presented for the first time in Philadelphia, this visual exhibit from Lao American artists reflects over 40 years in diaspora. Featuring historic war drawings by survivors of the U.S. bombings, illustrations of refugee camp photos, and digital interpretations of Lao folk tales, this integration of storytelling with art seeks to engage community members to share their own personal stories, adding their voices to the larger collective narrative that makes them uniquely Lao American.
Among the colors, haunting memories of 'Secret War'... the exhibit is a visceral lesson in how America's war in Vietnam crept into neighboring Laos and other parts of Southeast Asia. -- The Philadelphia Inquirer
Curated by our very own Catzie Vilayphonh, who received the Knight Foundation Arts Challenge Philadelphia Award in 2012 to start the Laos In The House project. This unique group show features work by Boon Vong, Chantala Kommanivanh, Dennis Sikhanthat, Khampha Bouaphanh, Mali Kounchao, Nor Sanavongsay, Peter Chanthanakone and Xaisongkham Induangchanthy, and a special collection of drawings from Legacies of War.
