Lao Food Madness
A bracket challenge, but instead of college teams fighting for the championship, we did it with Lao foods. Yup, we went there.
The Game
March Madness doesn’t start until the first NCAA basketball tournament game gets played on the 18th, but our online bracket challenge begins now - and we’re calling it Lao Food Madness! Seeing how passionate some of you are about your Lao dishes we couldn’t let the sports fans have all the fun now could we?
Like any bracket challenge, the goal is to correctly predict the winners of each matchup. Winning dishes will then advance to the next round by open online voting. That’s right, your community, our community, the community gets to decide the winner. Let the games begin.
The Competitors
About the Competitors
We started with 32 of our most beloved Lao dishes - and by “our” we mean the LITH staff of 20+ volunteers who nominated foods they personally favored or representative of Laotian flavors. It wasn’t easy, and some of these final dishes surprised even us.
While we recognize that dishes will vary by region, and that the entirety of Lao cuisine cannot be contained to only 32, it is a bracket challenge and the thought of setting up competition for 1,024 dishes gave us a Henny headache. Plus, that game timeline would’ve taken us until next Lao New Year, and we got plans.
We Stan Sticky Rice
Lastly, we collectively agreed that sticky rice, the ever-present GOAT OG of which nearly all of our Lao food foundations come from, should not be subjected to vying for anyone’s favor because - this should go without saying - there is no competition. We stan you Khao Niew.
The Rules

Prediction Round will only be open from Wednesday March 3rd until March 7th 2021 11:59PM EST.

Save and submit your predictions by registering your email.
Players must complete their prediction bracket and register their emails to be qualified for the challenge.

Vote for your winners during the live round matchups, from March 8th-22nd.
