Mix one part storytelling and one part community enrichment, serve with paying it forward and casual networking
The Asian Mosaic Fund (AMF) is hosting its last AMF & Friends Happy Hour series of 2018 on Friday, November 9, spotlighting us, Laos in the House, as a past AMF grantee. The event will take place at the Bok Building Workshop space from 5-8PM, (enter through the 821 Dudley Street entrance). Admission for the event is pay-what-you-can with a suggested donation of $15 and attendees can enjoy specialty cocktails complements of Oakheart. For a donation of $20 or more, attendees can also partake in a food-tasting tour featuring several dishes that celebrate Laotian culture.
AMF, a member of the Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP) National Giving Circle and affiliate of AAPIP’s Philadelphia Chapter, is a diverse group committed to advancing the Greater Philadelphia Asian Community through development, leadership and empowerment. The organization's mission is to build fellowship among multi-generational donors, partner with non-profit organizations that reflect shared values and support programs that address the needs of Greater Philadelphia's Asian community.
Friday’s happy hour will raise funds for AMF’s 2019 grantee cycle. All proceeds will help AMF advocate for the Asian community and provide resources and financial support to local nonprofit organizations. Donors have the opportunity to become voting members of AMF and have a direct impact on the grant-making process. In the past, AMF has given financial support to emerging programs that have helped refugees, youth, low-income families and more. Past recipients include The Philadelphia Suns, Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corp, Moder Patshala, Asian Arts Initiative and the event’s honoree, Laos in the House (LITH).
LITH’s mission is to integrate storytelling with art and encourage members of the community to share their own personal stories, while also giving a voice to the vulnerable. LITH will highlight some of the work they have done and will hold a pop-up open mic to encourage intercultural exchanges in the form of storytelling, art and performance. The organization will be sampling White Tiger Laotian whiskey for guests to enjoy, and one bottle will be raffled at the end of the night.
Guests will have the opportunity to share, network and learn more about AMF and LITH, including how to get more involved in the organizations. The happy hour will also serve as a great opportunity to collaborate with young professionals and enrich the Greater Philadelphia Asian community.
